I - 1. William Thomas Smith (1839-1932) was born on January 12, 1839 in Ohio and died on December 18, 1932 at Elsworth, Kansas.

William Thomas Smith married Rupheno (Ruphena) Gordon. She was born December 12, 1842 (1844) at Waldwick, Iowa Co., Wisconsin, the daughter of James Gordon (son of Peter Gordon) and Emeline Fowler-Gordon.

Ruphena had the following siblings. Francis M., Emeline, James, Joseph, William, Washington, unnamed infant, and Mary Elizabeth Gordon.

Ruphena died August 16, 1886 in Norton, Kansas.

This couple had six sons:
